Birch plywood cost 2026: the raw material arithmetic

We do not publish a plywood price list, because we do not sell plywood — but we can give you the number under the largest line in that price. One cubic metre of birch plywood geometrically takes at least 1.10 m³ of veneer. Our veneer is 17,500 ₽/m³ ex-works, so in an all-birch build the raw material component is 19,250 ₽ ≈ 241 USD per m³ of panel, or 340–373 USD CIF Turkey with freight. In a combi build, where birch goes only into the faces, that figure drops to a fifth. Put that floor under the quote you have been given and what is left becomes possible to judge.

Why there is no plywood price list here

We do not make or sell plywood. Publishing a plywood price list would mean publishing a figure we cannot verify — and that is precisely the thing this site does not do.

What we can do is different, and often more useful: give you the number under the largest line in a plywood price. The raw material. We make it, we publish its price, and how much of it a panel consumes follows from arithmetic.

The calculation itself

Three steps, all of them checkable.

1. How much veneer a panel consumes. In standard birch plywood a 15 mm panel is 11 plies, so one ply occupies 15 ÷ 11 = 1.364 mm inside the panel. With 1.5 mm veneer the ratio is 1.5 ÷ 1.364 = 1.10 m³ of veneer per m³ of panel. That is a floor: trimming, the sanding allowance and veneer rejected at grading sit on top of it. The full logic is on the how plywood is made page.

2. What the veneer costs. 17,500 ₽/m³ ex-works, mixed grade 1–4, roughly 219 USD/m³ at 80 ₽/USD.

3. Multiply.

The combi rows carry no cost for the poplar going into the core — we do not sell poplar and cannot quote it. That line has to come from your own supplier and be added on top.

Ply count by thickness

To adapt the calculation to your own thickness you only need the ply count: divide the panel thickness by it and compare the result with the thickness of the veneer you feed in.

PanelPliesPly thickness in panelRatio with 1.5 mm veneer
9 mm71.29 mm1.17
12 mm91.33 mm1.13
15 mm111.36 mm1.10
18 mm131.38 mm1.08
21 mm151.40 mm1.07

The ratio rises on thin panels: as the ply count grows, press compression per ply falls, so a thicker panel consumes slightly less veneer per cubic metre.

Three things that genuinely move the raw material cost

The same 17,500 ₽ can mean quite different quantities of usable material. This is where to look when comparing offers.

Grade distribution. A mixed 1–4 lot yields 22–27% grade 1–2. If you buy top grade for face plies only, your real cost is a different number entirely — the arithmetic is in the table on the door panel page.

Thickness tolerance. ±0.1 mm. A wider tolerance is material lost at calibration, and it writes straight into the cost per m³.

Moisture. 5–8%. Material outside that band blisters in the press, and those panels are scrapped — the most expensive part of a raw material cost is the panel that gets thrown away.

How long the price holds

Our veneer price is dated 30 August 2026 and valid to 30 November 2026, updated quarterly. The calculation on this page is fed by that price, so the table moves with it automatically. The full list, the grade tiers and the container calculator are on the prices page.

Send us your thickness, your lay-up and your monthly panel volume, and we will work out how many m³ of veneer that build needs and what it comes to.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you have a birch plywood price list?

No. We do not make or sell plywood, so publishing a plywood price list would mean publishing a figure we cannot stand behind. What we do publish is the veneer price and the arithmetic of how much veneer a panel consumes. Together those give you the raw material floor under any plywood quote you receive.

How much veneer does 1 m³ of plywood take?

The geometric floor is 1.10 m³. The calculation: a 15 mm panel is 11 plies, so one ply occupies 15 ÷ 11 = 1.364 mm inside the panel; with 1.5 mm veneer the ratio is 1.5 ÷ 1.364 = 1.10. Real consumption sits above that, because trimming, the sanding allowance and veneer rejected at grading all add to it — that margin is set by the yield of your own line.

What percentage of the plywood price is raw material?

We cannot answer that honestly, because we do not know the denominator: the selling price is set by the producer and varies by mill. What we can give you is the numerator — 241 USD per m³ of panel EXW in an all-birch build, 340–373 USD CIF. Divide by your own selling price and the ratio is yours.

How does the arithmetic change in a combi build?

It drops sharply, because birch goes only into the face plies. With 2 birch plies in an 11-ply panel the birch share is 18%: 0.20 m³ of birch veneer per m³ of panel, or 44 USD EXW. With 4 birch plies it is 0.40 m³ and 88 USD. The cost of the poplar core adds to that and we cannot quote it — we do not sell poplar.

Why do you call it a 2026 price, and how long does it hold?

Our veneer price is dated 30 August 2026 and valid to 30 November 2026; both dates are shown on the prices page. It is updated quarterly. The calculation on this page follows the price automatically, because both are fed from one source.

Can I buy plywood from you as well?

No. What we make is rotary-cut birch veneer: the raw material for a panel, not the panel. If you are looking for plywood there is no shortage of producers in Turkey; this page exists so you can evaluate the quote they give you.

What is the minimum order and the lead time?

One 40'HC container: 33 m³ in the 2600 × 1300 format, 38 m³ in 1600 × 1600. On the Novorossiysk–Ambarlı route delivery takes 22–32 days and freight is 90–120 USD per m³. If you load a railcar, the unit is 102 m³.

Tell us the format, thickness and monthly volume

We will work out the cubic metres per container, the freight to your port and the lead time. We answer during Turkish business hours, in Turkish, English and Russian.
