Birch veneer products: formats, thicknesses, price

We make four sizes: 2600 × 1300, 1600 × 1600 and 1300 × 1300 mm rotary-cut sheets, plus 420 × 420 mm pre-cut blanks. All of it is birch (Betula), nominal thickness 1.5 mm (0.9–1.7 mm band), moisture 5–8%, mixed grade 1–4. Sheets are 17,500 ₽/m³ ex-works, blanks 29,900 ₽/m³. Minimum lot is 33 m³ — one 40'HC container. The format you pick does not change the price; it changes how many cubic metres fit inside the container: 1600 × 1600 puts 15% more into the same box.

First, let us clear up a word

“Veneer” — like the Turkish ahşap kaplama — drags three different products behind it, and that is why buyers regularly land in the wrong place:

The formats

Species, thickness band, moisture and grade are identical across all four items. The only variable is the size — and what that size does to the economics of a container.

Tolerances: ±5 mm on length and width, ±0.1 mm on thickness.

Our nominal is 1.5 mm, but the band runs 0.9–1.7 mm and you set the thickness at the order stage.

Mixed thicknesses in one order are routine: the same container can carry 1.2 mm for the face and 1.7 mm for the core. For a plant pressing multi-layer panels, that closes two needs with one shipment.

How to count cubic metres

Veneer is sold in m³, but you plan production in pieces or in m². The conversion is simple:

m³ = length (m) × width (m) × thickness (m) × number of sheets

Example: 2600 × 1300 mm, 1.5 mm, 5,000 sheets. 2.6 × 1.3 × 0.0015 = 0.00507 m³ per sheet → 5,000 × 0.00507 = 25.35 m³

The other way round: a 33 m³ container in the 2600 × 1300 format is 6,509 sheets, or roughly 22,000 m² of surface.

Frequently asked questions

Which sheet formats do you produce?

Three sheet formats: 2600 × 1300 mm (the standard for a plywood press), 1600 × 1600 mm (square, the best container loading) and 1300 × 1300 mm (combi cores and small presses). Plus the 420 × 420 mm pre-cut blank. Tolerance on length and width is ±5 mm.

What thickness is the veneer?

Nominal 1.5 mm. The actual production band is 0.9–1.7 mm and you state the thickness you want when you order. 1.5 mm is the most requested thickness on Turkish plywood presses; 1.2 and 0.9 mm go into the face layers, 1.7 mm into the core.

How many sheets are there in a cubic metre?

At 1.5 mm: 197 sheets of 2600 × 1300, 260 sheets of 1600 × 1600, 394 sheets of 1300 × 1300, and 3,779 of the 420 × 420 blanks. The general rule at 1.5 mm is that 1 m³ holds exactly 667 m² of surface. Change the thickness and the count moves inversely.

Are rotary-cut and sliced veneer the same thing?

No. Rotary-cut veneer is peeled off the log by rotation, as on a lathe, and it is industrial raw material for plywood and LVL. Sliced veneer is knife-cut for figure, thin and decorative, and goes onto furniture fronts. We make the first; we do not produce decorative sliced veneer.

Do you cut to non-standard sizes?

Yes — the 420 × 420 mm blank is the standardised version of that service. If you need a different size we cut it at the mill: the price per cubic metre rises, because the cutting waste stays with us. In exchange, the cutting line and the offcut handling disappear from your shop.

What is the minimum order?

33 m³ — a full 40'HC container in the 2600 × 1300 format. On smaller lots the freight per cubic metre rises out of proportion and the quotation stops making sense. If you load a railcar, the shipping unit is 102 m³.

What moisture content does the veneer have?

5–8%. That is the standard band for dried veneer waiting for the press. Veneer arriving above 12% blisters in the press, so moisture is measured before shipment and the value goes onto the shipping document.
